Here we are. I’m drained. As we journey home again.
I’m driving with my family into the lion’s den.
Laws that pass, to turn away a fleeing refugee,
Leave me wondering if we’ll really be in good company.
Will we be welcomed home? Is it safe for us to return?
Why us and not them? Something we really need to learn.
A social media hiatus is what I need today,
For I fear for my health, my mental state, if I am to stay.
I feel for the players, who did better than their best,
Whilst fans did not deserve the cup, sore losers nonetheless.
There will always be a few that ruin it for others.
But it’s not their fault, they learned it from their fathers and their mothers.
And the system, its tradition, it’s inherently racist,
So subtle, some fail to notice on a daily basis.
It’s ableist, it’s fascist, it’s anything but kind.
We’ve outgrown our old traditions and that’s the bottom line.
But It’s not these fools that get me with their words that cut so deep,
It’s the silent ones with mouths sewed shut as if they were asleep.
We can change it if we try, but we all must first admit,
Without acknowledgement, there’s no way for any to commit.
